The tea nation of Turkey
After water, tea is the most popular drink in the world. Enjoyed for centuries because of its relaxing character, we now know that this infusion beverage contains valuable ingredients and has positive effects on body and soul. Minerals and vitamins bolster your health, while antioxidants strengthen the immune system.
Every year, around 3.4 million tonnes of tea are produced worldwide. After India, China, Kenya and Sri Lanka, Turkey is the fifth-largest tea-growing region in the world. More than half of all Turkish tea is produced by Çaykur. The corporate history of Çaykur is as old as industrialised tea production in Turkey itself. The first tea factory began operation in 1947 in the harbour city of Rize. Since then, Çaykur has stood for the highest standards and finest quality based on tradition and long-standing experience. Regular monitoring of the entire production chain guarantees high-quality products.
Çaykur has set itself the progressive and ambitious goal of converting its entire tea production to organic production by 2023, the 100th anniversary of the establishment of the Republic of Turkey.
The country, which is located at the point where Europe and Asia meet, is also a global market leader in the production of dried figs and apricots.
On the following pages, you can read more about the history of tea in Turkey, about the town of Rize and about our organic tea, which is completely free of chemicals and pesticides thanks to the unique climatic conditions in which it is grown.
