Responsible tea cultivation
Çaykur is well aware of the responsibility it bears as the main employer for inhabitants of the Rize region. The company has been committed to the region for decades, supporting sports, social causes and cultural initiatives.
Çaykur does not operate any of its own tea plantations, but prefers to work with local people. Currently, 205,312 independent farmers grow Çaykur quality tea on plantations at the foot of the Kaçkar mountains. If you count the farmers’ families, the Çaykur tea business secures the livelihood of over one million people in the Rize region. The state company guarantees fixed purchase prices and is the largest employer in the region.
Education is a key prerequisite for the further development of the region and its inhabitants. Çaykur financed the construction of a primary school that was inaugurated in 1998. Currently, more than 1,000 pupils are taught there by 50 teachers.
Çaykur has sponsored the football team ‘Çaykur Rizespor’ that plays in the Süper Lig, the highest league in Turkey, since 1991. Çaykur also supports amateur and professional sports clubs in the region. The Çaykurspor club is supported to the tune of four million Turkish lire every year. It practises seven types of sports: football, wrestling, handball, rafting, judo, table tennis and mountain climbing.
